Tuberculosis (abbreviated as TB for Tubercle Bacillus) is a common and deadly infectious disease that is caused by mycobacteria, primarily Mycobacterium tuberculosis.Other mycobacteria such as Mycobacterium bovis, Mycobacterium africanum and Mycobacterium microti can also cause tuberculosis, but these species do not usually infect healthy adults

Reply:Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the name for the specific Mycobacterium with causes TB. There are other species in this genus which are beginning to cause problems though.
