the risk is death
Reply:DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:It depends on how hot it is outside. If the temperature is reasonable, I think there is no much problem, especially because the fridge keeps its cool for some time. However, you should avoid buying food which is more likely to go bad - like mayonnaise, some sorts of salami,...You know.

P.S. Why did these first 3 people give such stupid answers!?
Reply:that is very bad. the rule of food service is to keep cold foods cold and hot foods hot. when foods are not at an extreme temperature, they are breeding grounds for bacteria. after an hour or two the risk of bacteria is about 100%, can you imagine the amount after the bacteria had been reproducing for 8 hours?

i would suggest only buying enough perishable food for the day, non-perishables will be fine as they do not require refrigeration. thats a lot of trips to the grocery store, but your health is worth it.
Reply:Astronomical!

There is bacteria in almost everything, certainly in the air that contacts it. The better question would be: what kinds of bacteria should I worrry about in this circumstance?

Salmonella is the likeliest, and it is nasty. Particularly with poultry, even if it has been cooked.

If this is an ongoing problem, you would do better to stick to eating foods that have a long shelf-life, or stuff from cans. Meats and salads are expecially likely to grow bacteria--of varying degrees of virulence, and should be eaten fresh or disposed of when not properly refrigerated.

Stick to crackers and breads, peanut butter and high-sugar foods that don't encourage bacterial proliferation.
