Candida is a fungus, not a bacteria. It is the same fungus that causes oral(thrush) and vaginal yeast infections. You can also have a fungal infection in your lungs, but this is rarely seen unless your immune system has been compromised. You can have a yeast infection severe enough that you feel bad for several days.
