What are the basic shapes of bacteria?

There are many species of bacteria, still many more to be described. Therefore there are many shapes. However, there are three forms that are relatively common; rod(bacilli), sphere(cocci) and elliptical(coccobacilli).

What are the basic shapes of bacteria?
i would also add spiral shaped or spirochettes

just for your information microbes can be classified according to their shape and cell arrangements

for example

staphylococci - grape vine like cellular arrangements

streptococci, streptobacilli etc., - cells are connected in chains

good luck!
Reply:Don't forget the branched bacteria, such as the well-known Bifidobacteria.

Cheers......Kev.
Reply:cocci (circular), bacilli (rod-shaped), spirilla (spiral shaped)
