Is salty water good to kill bacteria in fruits? (for example strawberries) Any other suggestions?

I hand picked strawberries from a strawberry farm. There were flies and worms in the plants. Now that I am home I want to eat them but first I want to get rid of any bacteira. Any other suggestions?

Keep them immersed in salt water (use table salt or NaCl only) . The worms and or larvae will float on the water .

Remove them. After about 10 minutes wash the fruits in running potable water. This will wash away the dirt and the microbes.

Now you can eat them .

The weak hydrochloric acid secreted by our stomach lining will take care of any harmful microbe that has sneaked through!
Reply:That is a big problem in our advanced society. Fortunately most of the insecticides and pesticides are water soluble and are washed away with water. The rest we have to ingest and develop tolerance or worse cancer .

Thoroughly washing with water is the only solution presently. Report It

Reply:wash them with a weak solution of water an dishwashing liquid (cold water), rinse well and Bon appetite.
